Ocean Sciences Meeting 2018 Town Hall

Monday, February 12, 2018: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

The DOOS town hall and reception at the OSM 18 meeting served as an opportunity to connect with the broader deep ocean community as the DOOS began to prepare its Science and Implementation Guide. The town hall began with an overview of GOOS and the Framework for Ocean Observing as well as an overview of the history and motivation behind the formation of the DOOS and how it fits into the GOOS structure. This was followed by an introduction of the DOOS Task Teams – Physics, Biology & Ecosystems, Biogeochemistry, and Data – with presentations by representatives from each. Lastly, potential demonstration projects and sites for DOOS were described. The town hall closed with a discussion of how DOOS can best serve the deep ocean observing community.
